2016/ 17 Activities


Summer Field Trip:

Saturday 3rd September: Stanwick Earthworks Fieldtrip
As promised, there are two attachments, detailing:-
 a) how to get to the site from the A1 at Scotch Corner and
 b) info on the starting point at Aldbrough St Johnmeeting at 11.30am – plus our subsequent programme.
- Please note that the visit includes a walk of ca3.6 miles and involves crossing several stiles.
- Party size will be limited to a maximum of 20 people
- Contact details for Yvonne Luke are given. Bookings will be made on a first come - first served basis

 
Winter Lecture Programme:

29th October 2016: YDLRT/ YAHS day school at Grassington Town Hall,

Yorkshire Quern Survey AGM + Visiting Speaker [TBA]

3rd December 2016: Xmas PRS meeting at Swarthmore,
2.00pm: Prof Terry O’Connor: (University of York)
‘New Thoughts on Animals in Prehistoric Yorkshire’
3.30pm: Debbie Hallam (University of Bradford):
'The Bronze Age Funerary Cups of Northern England'.

11th March 2017: 11.00am ‘Members Morning’ meeting at Swarthmore.
Following the success of our inaugural morning session, we’ll focus on two 30 minute talks, allowing more time for subsequent discussion. One candidate is known (Rachel Wood – on a [new] later prehistoric ‘hillfort’ at Crambeck, N Yorks). Please contact me with your ideas for the second presentation.

11th March 2017: 2.00pm AGM meeting at Swarthmore;
 Speaker: Don Henson (University of York)
‘The re-colonisation of the north: early Mesolithic settlers make Star Carr their home’.
