2015/ 16 Activities

Winter Lecture Programme: Section dates for your diary:-

5th December 2015: 10.30am: at Swarthmore, [see below for the new location for our meetings]
Quern Survey AGM + a talk from David Heslop on “Applying New Technology to Quern Recording”
NB: Any PRS member is welcome to attend.
5th December 2015: Xmas PRS meeting at Swarthmore [note the new location for our meetings]

2.00pm: Dr Kate Sharpe: (University of Durham) will tell us about recent rock art research:-
"Recent Carved Stone Investigations: Rombalds Moor and beyond"

3.00pm            Keith Boughey: distribution of Prehistoric Yorkshire No53 and Hare Hill Cairn volume
3.05pm:           Break for refreshments – provision of festive fare will continue to be welcomed

3.30pm: Paula Ware, MA, MCIfA: (MAP Archaeological Practice Ltd): will talk on the excavations at:-
“Burnby Lane, Pocklington – A New Chapter for Iron Age Cemeteries in East Yorkshire”


5th March 2016: 10.30am ‘Members Morning’ meeting at Swarthmore.

An inaugural morning session will feature three Section members, each talking for c.20 minutes about their current projects. Please come along to hear about their progress and discuss their findings: 
David Davidson: “Thornborough and the axe route through Wensleydale and beyond”
Keith Boughey: “Excavation of Hare Hill Cairn”
Dennis Waudby: High Leas, Adel: A Geo/Physic Reappraisal of the Northern Perimeter of the “Roman Fort”.

5th March 2016: 2.00pm AGM meeting at Swarthmore – joint meeting with RAS
Prof Colin Haselgrove, University of Leicester on:-
“The rise and fall of the late Iron Age royal centre at Stanwick, North Yorks

Swarthmore Car Parking: There is a large car-park, free at weekends, at Jacob’s Well. This is accessible as you ascend Clarendon Road from the Headrow, by taking the first right turn, at the pedestrian crossing, opposite the college building (before the first right bend). You then drive through the raised barriers into the car-park and then walk round the encircling buildings to the entrance to the Swarthmore education centre on Clarendon Road, facing onto Woodhouse Square.

Prehistoric Yorkshire:At the meeting, our Editor will distribute the latest edition to paid-up members, together with copies of Hare Hill Cairn for those who have subscribed.

Univ of York: Seminars take place every Wednesday at 5:15pm in the Philip Rahtz Lecture Theatre (K/133) in King’s Manor. The series runs from the 14th of October - 28th November, and the 13th of January - 2nd March 2016. The series is free to attend and open to all. Details at
